Istanbul, Turkey
Ceren Ataay was born in Ankara in 1980. She completed her Bachelor’s degree at Istanbul Gedik University, Faculty of Fine Arts and Architecture, Department of Visual Communication Design, and holds a Master’s degree in Public Relations and Advertising from Marmara University. Additionally, she completed Basic Acting training under the Hilal Özbay Workshop at the Müjdat Gezen Art Center during the 2023–2024 academic year.
Pursuing her artistic practice through an interdisciplinary lens, Ataay develops a multilayered creative language that fuses painting, visual design, and spatial narrative. Alongside her work in the visual arts, she has been an active member of creative teams in theater, focusing on stage aesthetics, costume language, and character narrative. Translating her background in visual design and art education to the performing arts, she has specifically produced works in costume design and overall onstage visual cohesion.

- ABOUT THE ARTIST
Her prominent theater projects include:
- Designing the costumes for the play “Carmela ve Paulino’nun Şık Varyetesi” (Carmela and Paulino’s Chic Variety) (2025–2026), adapted from the work of José Sanchis Sinisterra, starring Nebil Sayın and Hilal Özbay, and directed by Koray Tarhan.
- Portraying the character “Şehnaz” and serving as the costume designer for the production of Turgut Özakman’s 1983 two-act musical “Bir Şehnaz Oyun” (2023–2024), adapted and directed by Hilal Özbay at the Müjdat Gezen Art Center.
The artist’s theatrical work stands as a cornerstone of her interdisciplinary approach, seamlessly integrating character psychology, period aesthetics, and stage atmosphere with visual storytelling.
In 2021, she established CosmicArt Studio in Kadıköy, Istanbul, where she continues her professional work while also organizing social responsibility art workshops for women and children.
Investigating the unseen connections between nature, humanity, and the universe, Ataay explores the elements of water, fire, earth, and air through the concepts of unity, transformation, and balance. Defined by layered surfaces, strong textures, and the interplay of light and shadow, her work is situated within the realm of contemporary abstract and figurative-abstract painting.
Today, the artist continues her practice at her studio in Istanbul and participates in national and international exhibitions, expressing themes of existence, transformation, and wholeness through a contemporary artistic language.
